Apparently described by one designer: "It's the old Necromunda ruleset to play with."

    And from GAMA via Dakka:

Shadow War: Armageddon is the spiritual successor to Necromunda and due out VERY SOON. Comes in a MASSIVE (stressed a lot) box full of multilevel terrain, Space Marines, Orks and of course rules. The rules cover 16-17 different factions, so most/all 40k armies are covered.

Just seen this myself. It will be interesting to see how it compares ot Necromunda - but I don't know why they don't just go for a Necromunda release. I wonder whether this will be like Dreadfleet, which failed because it wasn't Man O' War. (Though, in this case, compatability with 40k will probably ensure it's not a complete flop.)

40K entry game with terrain that would likely normally cost the box price? People will buy multiples for terrain alone. Can't fail.

Spiritual successor? With Scouts and Orks? I don't think so...

Iv just been reading other forum sites and watched an interview with gw from Las Vegas, and I strongly feel this is meant to be necromunda 2.0 :(
It is definately using the necromunda ruleset and will be inclusive of all 40k races (from what I gather), but the whole thing is just so uninspiring to me!
I always thought that if they left necromunda alone I would be ok with it as I don't want them to mess with the fluff, but now that it's happening, I kinda feel deflated!
Although highly copyrightable, I suspect gw doesn't want to have to include references to slavery, gambling or drinking ( to name but afew of the vices of hive primus!) but probibly more prevalently, it ties in models already in circulation, so minimal risk or effort in getting folks on board!
If this is what comes out, and isn't just a marketing thing to test the water, I definately won't be buying this. (but I would totally understand if anyone else thought it cool...it's just not for me)

The GW guy in Vegas said "It uses Necromunda rules." Probably uses some Necromunda rules, but uses current (or 8th ed) for the bulk of the combat rules.

The fact that they did not use the word "Necromunda" is somewhat encouraging. They could be saving it for the "real" Necromunda, say "Shadow Wars: Necromunda".

The terrain is a bit odd for gaming. 8" tall ladders anyone? Blurb says multi level scenery, so ground level and an upper level is multi level? The two round, refinery like pieces don't seem to have any game function except to block a little LOS and provide a small amount of cover. At least there is some cover on the walkways... I suppose we will find out soon enough.

Necromunda itself will come from Specialist Games. This will be a GW main company 'gateway' game for 40K, like Gangs of Comorragh. The rules won't be exactly Necromunda we know, I'm sure.

Anyway, we have the delectable NCE, whadda we care?

The scenery looks interesting. Maybe too high. Oh and we'll need about 5 times more of it.

Reports elsewhere say this isn't all of it, that the box is crammed with modular terrain. Could be interesting.

I guess the high floor height is to allow vehicles to pass under, not something needed in Necromunda.

    From the Community page:
"Those veteran gamers out there will be keen to learn that much of the ruleset is based off of the classic Necromunda game, including some in-between game advancements and earning experience that can see your small recon-force grow to become an elite unit of honed killers."

Also, Squats are back... but in Age of Sigmar! [IMG]

After looking at all the new dwarf pics on the community site, very much this.

    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/03/15/a-new-race-descends-on-the-mortal-realms/

Troops need very little in the way of mods (a few weapons, paint) to work fine in 40K. Of course they would work better in War Machine and I suspect that they are aimed directly at War Machine players...

Taking the balloon things off the vehicles gives some usable grav vehicles. GrundstokGunhauler made a nice speeder type vehicle and the bigger boats could be Land Raider /Predator/Leman Russ analogs.

I presume the terrain will be plastic so easily kitbashed to more suitable Necromunda terrain. I need some solid/fixed terrain that actually looks like it has a purpose (as opposed to just walkways :p) so I'll be looking to use those towers and maybe the walkways with some original bulkheads. It's a shame that the models don't appear to be new as it would have been a lot easier to sell the scouts and orks on eBay to recover some/most of the outlay.

The biggest issue for me is that the rules might be very similar/the same. I was hoping for new distinct different rules so that it didn't pull people away from here and other small bastions of Necromunda.

If the game is good (rules wise) then it might pull people from Necromunda @King Redwart , but if the rules are a fail, anyone stil lplaying necromunda... will keep doing it, they are very unlikely to be tempted away by a poor ruleset. If anything I am hopeful, it will inspire new generation to look at skirmish level games seriously, if the rules are considered a flop by most, then they might start looking for better rules... leading them here.

Also if GW are basing these rules of necromunda... and making 40k units fit... it might be a great gateway/boost to necromunda as we can now tempt 40 players into necromunda much more easily with their existing armies.

Terrian... eh, its different. Depending on cost of the box and actual quantity, it could be very good or very bad. It's more likely to be somewhere in between. I'll reserve my judgement on that til more details.

Overall though, @CaptainDangerous , don't feel deflated. This could go well, nothing is certain yet!

I think that terrain looks pretty sweet! Mix it in with the current range and you could have some pretty awesome boards!

I literally just came here to say the same. This is necromunda's 2.0 sadly, and I'm guessing it's going to share more traits with Killteam than Necromunda. Not to say that's a bad thing, as it means more people can play, and all us Necro players have to do build the killteam since we already have the terrain. The terrain looks pretty nice, as it can all be taken apart, and certain bits can be places on the floor to create more scatter terrain, so this box actually looks pretty sweet, but I'm guessing it'll be around the £50-£80 mark. Hopefully not any more.

this is what i hope. acutally no one in my region plays necromunda all the tablop-club's just playing 40k or killteam. so my hope is that the rulez's are nealry like the necromunda-rules and more people start playing a skirmish-game and not just the big 40k-battles.

and if you can play with all this different races, there is probably a possibility to "convert" a necromunda-gang into the new system. Its depending on if you can chose all the weapons from old necromunda like stubber or heavy stubbers.

Example for Gang-Conversions: Van Saar as Adeptus Mechanicus. Cawdor as Cultists. Orlock as Cadian. ...and more...

I think this might be a new series of games. Shadow War: Armageddon is the first one. Shadow War: Necromunda will be next...similar to how Warhammer Quest is going right now.

This is the most positive slant I've seen taken on this! Would tie in with other theories about this being a "testing of the waters" ahead of doing a more true to form Necromunda re-release. Fingers crossed!

I think that'd be cool, with different scenery in each box that combines to make a bigger set!
However, I think the new Necro is being handled by a new Specialist Games branch which is formed from Forgeworld designers and separate from GW's main lines. So while the new Necro may be compatible, I'm not sure it'll be an instalment in the awesome idea of a series as you propose, unless they make a separate Necromunda remake as part of this series.

Really surprised they aren't updating the rules to use the latest 40K ruleset.
